CHRISTENE BROWNE TO RECEIVE BEST DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKER AWARD AT THE 2011 TheWIFTS INTERNATIONAL

VISIONARY AWARDS IN TORONTO

The Women痴 International Film & Television Showcase Honour Innovative and Inspiring Women from Around the World at an Elegant Event at Toronto痴 Bell Lightbox

TORONTO On Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Toronto痴 TIFF Bell Lightbox, Christene Browne, a veteran documentary filmmaker will be one of a select group of women honoured by the Women痴 International Film & Television Showcase (TheWIFTS) at their annual International Visionary Awards.

The event normally held in Los Angles will be held for the first time in Toronto and will be hosted by Elizabeth Grant International Inc. Browne will be receiving TheWIFTS Foundation 2011 Documentary Filmmaker Award for her groundbreaking 5-part documentary series Speaking In Tongues: The History of Language (2007), which investigates the evolution of language from prehistoric times to the present day.

About theWIFT Awards: TheWIFTS Awards is a unique occasion where women are honoured for their outstanding work in their respective fields and for encouraging younger generations of women to work toward their goals, dreams and change the world around them. It showcases well-deserving women who continue to raise the bar in their fields and perpetuate the awareness of challenges and breakthroughs that women have faced and triumphed. The goal is to empower women to be active participants in creating lasting, positive change.

Other 2011 honourees include Christine Bentely, Debbie Travis, Denise Cronenberg, and Arlene Dickinson.
